Sometimes projects were considered large world-famous buildings, which is not entirely incorrect, but today projects and project management are viewed from a different domain due to growing concerns about the concept of complexity. Understanding the types of projects and how they can be managed is of great importance for project managers, project team and the target outcome of a particular project, so considering different types of projects compared to their characteristics can be very helpful and ultimately influence the selection of appropriate form of the project organization or even the outcome of the project. The purpose of this paper is to point out the fact that a good understanding of project types with a comparison of their key characteristics is of great importance because each project is not just a way to do something, but an opportunity to achieve the desired result by applying a systematic approach to management. The methodology used to conduct the research in this final paper were exclusively secondary data sources. The research was conducted on the basis of available existing literature and published scientific papers. With the help of qualitative and quantitative data, a final solution of the research question could be reached, and the methods used were: inductive, deductive, methods of analysis, comparison and description. The key results of the research point to the conclusion that the individual or organization involved in projects must understand its classification in order to solve the complexity of the problem through management.
